My Son Sanctuary Birding Report – 9 March 2026

Cloudy skies and a light drizzle created perfect conditions for birdwatching at My Son Sanctuary, one of the best places for birding near Da Nang in central Vietnam.
As soon as we arrived, before the cameras even came out of the bags, a Greater Racket-tailed Drongo and a Lineated Barbet were already posing along the road. Of course, the moment we reached for the cameras, they disappeared into the forest — a classic birding moment that every birder knows well.

Soon after, a group of Blue-tailed Bee-eater appeared, gliding and swinging gracefully through the sky. Meanwhile, the loud calls of a White-throated Kingfisher echoed from the bridge inside My Son Sanctuary. Not far away, several Orange-breasted Green Pigeon were perched on their favorite tree again — a reliable sight for birders visiting the sanctuary.

A buggy ride deeper into the forest revealed even more bird activity. Tiny Sunbirds were feeding among the flowers, moving quickly between branches. After leaving the buggy and walking quietly along a small forest stream, we spotted a Common Iora, more bee-eaters, and several flycatchers moving through the canopy.

From somewhere deep in the jungle, the distant laughter of Laughingthrushes echoed through the forest, blending with the steady metallic calls of the Coppersmith Barbet. It felt as if the whole forest of My Son Sanctuary was calling us deeper into the jungle for more bird discoveries.
